How to Stop Armoury Crate From Running in Background?

Imagine starting your laptop in the morning, expecting a smooth ride. But it is working slowly. No apps open, no games running… yet your system isn’t as fast as it should be. That’s what happened to me, and guess what? The reason wasn’t a big software update — it was Armoury Crate silently running in the background.
While it’s great for tweaking fan speeds or changing RGB lights, it doesn’t always need to be active. In this guide, I’ll show you how to stop Armoury Crate from quietly eating up your laptop’s resources, step by step.
Why Armoury Crate Runs in the Background
Armoury Crate is a control center for ASUS laptops and desktops. It manages performance, RGB lighting, fan settings, and more. To do that, it keeps services running in the background — even if you’re not actively using it.
But if you don’t need those features all the time, letting it run can slow down your PC and eat up memory.
Methods of How to Stop Armoury Crate from Running in Background
If the Armoury crate keeps on running in background, and you are not in the need to have its utilities like RGB effects, want to optimize fan speed or monitor system temperature, You may turn it off anytime. Here are three simple ways to turn it off.
Method 1: Disable Armoury Crate from Startup Apps
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Go to the Startup tab.
- Look for ArmouryCrate.UserSessionHelper or anything named Armoury Crate.
- Right-click and choose Disable
This stops it from launching automatically when Windows starts.
Method 2: Use the Armoury Crate App Settings (If Available)
- Open Armoury Crate.
- Go to Settings (gear icon).
- Find options like “Auto-start Armoury Crate with Windows”.
- Turn it off.
Some versions of the app allow this, and it’s the safest method.
Method 3: Disable Armoury Crate Services Manually (Advanced Users)
Warning: Be careful with this method. Don’t disable random services.
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
- Look for services like:
- ArmouryCrateService
- ASUS Update Service (asusm)
- ROG Live Service
- ArmouryCrateService
- Right-click → Properties.
- Set Startup type to Disabled.
- Click Stop, then OK.
This will stop Armoury Crate from running in the background, but some features (like RGB sync or performance switching) may stop working too.
Method 4: Use Task Scheduler (If It Restarts Anyway)
Sometimes Armoury Crate schedules itself to run.
- Press Windows + S, type Task Scheduler, and open it.
- On the left side, go to Task Scheduler Library > ASUS
- Find tasks like ArmouryCrateStartupTask.
- Right-click → Disable.
This removes any background triggers Armoury Crate may be using.
Method 5: Uninstall Armoury Crate (If You Don’t Use It)
If you’re done with it:
- Go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps.
- Search for Armoury Crate and all related tools.
- Uninstall them one by one.
- Restart your system.
You can reinstall anytime from the ASUS website if needed.
Final Thoughts
Stopping Asus Armoury Crate will definitely improve speed, especially on older laptops. But it’s a kind reminder that you will not be able to use features like fan control, RGB lighting, or game mode, or some features might stop working unless the services are active again. My recommendation is simple. If you are using an old system, armoury crate is not a wise choice. Using armoury crate lite can be another option. But if you have a powerful ASUS device, you must enjoy the armoury’s wonderful features.
